As if that was not enough that purists do not really agree with a big diesel on the BMW 6 Series, the Bavarians will bring here at Geneva 2012 a car equipped with xDrive all-wheel drive. We are talking about BMW 640d xDrive. Six-cylinder diesel of 3.0 liters and 300 horsepower engine, was already announced on BMW 6 Series since last year. Now, at the Geneva Motor Show 2012, we will see the BMW 640d xDrive combined with traction.
Ok, you might ask what’s so thrilling. Well, to recap: sports car, both coupe and convertible, all-wheel drive, 300 hp diesel. Anybody else offering such a menu? No – so BMW 640d xDrive is here that the first sports car (coupe or convertible) with over 300 horsepower diesel four-wheel drive.
Comparing to the version with only rear wheel drive 640d, the diesel engine has been modified, displaying 313 CP/4.400 rpm and maximum torque of 630 Nm/1.500-2.500 rpm and the gearbox is still the same automatic 8 steps. Addition of xDrive, however, has effects on performance.
Thus, BMW 640d xDrive Coupe starts from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds with 0.3 seconds, better than the 640d Coupe! That four-wheel drive is more effective in distributing torque to all four wheels for fulminate acceleration, which is observed with xDrive 640d Convertible version, with a start of 5.4 seconds with 0.2 seconds better than 640d Convertible.
Maximum speed remains limited to 250 km/h, while the average consumption is estimated at an incredible value of 5.7 liters/100 km – which, even if 0.3 l/100 km higher than for the version with rear-wheel drive only, consumption remains excellent for sports over 300 horsepower. We are going to find out details about the price at Geneva Motor Show 2012!
