Announced by BMW Gran Coupe concept since last year in Beijing in 2010, the new 4-door coupe BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is announced as a formidable rival for the second generation Mercedes-Benz CLS, but also for the coupe hatch Audi A7 Sportback luxury.
Compared to the concept, the differences are almost all; Bavarians prefer to transpose in series production cars without reducing very good first impression that left Gran Coupe at the Chinese Motor Show. For those who expect the surprise news that we could let them sulk: BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe does not appeal to extravagant design.
The new 6 Series Gran Coupe looks simply like a mix between a sedan and 6 Series Coupe a 5 Series sedan, with a muzzle and strong individual sports, a sports sedan silhouette as anyone expect from a BMW in while the back looks very sporty and elegant, as if two-door coupe.
Interestingly, from the CLS and A7 Sportback, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is much closer to the silhouette of a sedan than a coupe, the roof being plunged back something more than the Sedan 5 Series. The connoisseurs will appreciate the unaltered maintenance of the upright back, with famous signature “Hofmeister kick” of the door. But few might say about the new 6 Series Gran Coupe that is nothing more than a 5 Series to Coupe 6 Series.
About the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe I would say it’s more the practical version of the 6 Series coupe, because access to the rear is much better thanks to the additional pair of doors and folding backrest fractional contribute to a better modularity – even if the boot is still 460 liters, as well as 2-door coupe.
