SUV are more popular than ever, on all world markets, and more and more manufacturers are scrambling to enter this highly profitable segment. While some water bathes in November, others, like Mercedes, are, I might say, veterans segment.
The SUV story it’s old. The first seems to have been a Chevy Suburban in 1935. Since then and until today, this type of car made a nice figure overseas, but in Europe we talk about it only after the appearance of the first generation ML. Meanwhile, “hostilities” have gained momentum, so that today almost everyone present on the Old Continent, and has at least one such model.
The Stuttgart can boast a full range of SUVs, starting with the venerable G and continuing with its modern interpretation – GL, ML’s more mature than ever, and R-Class, a fierce competitor for any Saloon luxury. We can see that all are from large to enormous, including the price. So a competitor to the X3 (which was good money for BMW) is required if Mercedes would like to cover 100% market.
And back to the subject of this article: GLK. Yes, this is the final name, the Germans are all too clear on this issue and trying, perhaps, to end the controversy aroused opposite the name that will be elected (in a while MLK was given as a safe alternative by many publications). GLK, as the name suggests, it would be a small brother for GL and exterior design confirms this. Who hath formed the eye will easily confuse the two SUVs. The front is as massive grille on the GLK is even higher (relative to size).
Headlights differ most, as a new amalgam of edges and curves aggressively. From A to tailgate poles, flag line is identical to that of the GL’s. The side we have two plans, one up and one down, which makes the glass surface to narrow toward the rear. GLK will have high-tech equipment: air conditioning and center console reign infotainment system. First, GLK won’t be like Leviathan GL, and will not spend too long in mud. Therefore, cheaper versions will have only two wheel drive, four-wheel drive is optional.
